America has spoken and the results are in! After a month-long call for nominations and votes, Rand
McNally and USA TODAY announced DeLand is a finalist in the search for the Best of the Road Most Patriotic Town in America! We need your help to put us over the top.
The six finalist towns will be reviewed personally by the Best of the Road Rally team, who will arrive in DeLand on June 24-25, 2012. What can you do to help show how the DeLand community is patriotic? Fly your flag and wear your red, white and blue! If you are a business or church with a marquee, display a patriotic message or simply say "God Bless the USA". If you don't have a marquee you can decorate your storefront or window. Let your imagination and patriotic spirit lead you. And if you meet the Road Rally team, let them know how DeLand honors our heroes every day.
Join in the action at 4pm on Sunday, June 24th at Conrad Park where the DeLand Suns play a home game. Admission will be free for veterans, those in uniform or anyone wearing red, white & blue . Bring your family and a favorite veteran and experience the moving and fun patriotic festivities before the game followed by the game at 5:00pm. Our goal is to pack the stadium on this rare occasion to honor our own. Bring your Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Little League Teams and Veterans Groups to an All American Summertime Baseball Game! Conrad Park is at 555 South Woodland Boulevard in DeLand.
The rally team will create a memo of their ''DeLand'' experience as well as the other towns they visit and the Best of the Road judges will announce the winning towns at the Destination Marketing Association International (DMAI) Annual Convention on July 16. The top towns will be highlighted on www.bestoftheroad.com and in the 2014 Rand McNally Road Atlas, as well as on USA TODAY's Travel site. We can really put DeLand on the map.
DeLand embraces the spirit of patriotism every day of the year, but for Sunday the 24th and Monday the 25th, it is our opportunity to share our passion with the Road Rally Team and let them see why DeLand is the most patriotic town in America!
