FOR NOVICE / PRE-PRO / BEGINNER DANCERS

Tuesdays and Thursdays in July

Classes start July 2^nd (no class on July 4^th)

For ages 7 and up – younger students by invitation only

 

12:00 – 2:00 Ballet and Acro Workshop

Get your Prima Ballerina on and take Ballet and Acro with Miss Sarah!

Classes will include warm-up, technique development and performance coaching,

plus plenty of mat and barre time!

 

2:00 – 2:30 LUNCH!

Lunch items, snacks and drinks are available in the KEDA CAFÉ or bring your own goodies

 

2:30 – 4:30 Hip-Hop and Jazz Workshop

Groove on your Hip-Hop and Jazz skills with Mr. Jerry!

Learn dance routines to be featured in upcoming local events,

like Volusia County Dances, Port Orange Family Days and more!

Looking for a summer camp program? No problem, there are plenty to choose from! Most of these
camps are broken up into age groups, with just the span they allow being listed. Here is an ongonig list of some of the summer camp programs that are available:

Smart Start Tutoring
Located in Port Orange, they offer a variety of weekly summer day camps. Their camps are fun and educational. They offer both a morning and afternoon sessions.

City of Ormond Beach
The parks and recreation department offers a variety of summer camps, including those focused on art and sports themes. They are offering a summer camp expo, where you can get info about all their camps on April 5th.

City of Port Orange
They parks and recreation department offers summer camps for kids that include field trip options (field trips cost extra). They  have an elementary program for kids ages 6-12, as well as a teen program for those ages 12-14. The dates for the 8-week program are June 10-August 2, 2013. The fee for the elementary program is $400 for the 8 weeks, $500 for the teen program (resident rates - non-resident rates are higher). Contact them for more information by calling 386-506-5937.

Located in DeBary, they are offering summer art camps for kids. Themes include crayon, food art, pottery, games, sculptures, and paper masterpieces. Camps are for ages 6-16. They are also offering summer theater camps for kids, focusing on such themes as making music and Alice in Wonderland.

Gretchen Neal Summer Art Camp
This camp is held each summer and is located at the St. James Episcopal Church in Ormond Beach. Camp costs $125 per week, which includes all supplies.

They are offering camps for children ages 6-16. Camps include a lot of outdoor activities and nature exploration. 

Montessori School of Palm Coast
They are offering a "Camp Lady Bug," which is a hands-on natured based summer camp.  These camps are for preschoolers. They will focus on nature exploration, gardening, games, water play, and art. There are two sessions available.

Sewing Camp 2013 is June 10th thru August 15th. Camp is Monday - Thursday in either the morning or afternoon. Camp will run nine continuous weeks ranging in ability and project level to build skills to successfully take home projects. Cost will be $130 including tax per week. The cost includes use of machines, snacks and supplies. Remember sewing is a lifetime skill. Call 386-767-3545 for more info.

Skate Camp in New Smyrna Beach

Stetson University - Destination Science 
Held at Stetson University, this camp is for kids ages 6-12. They will focus on science, astronaut adventures, and more.

UCF Summer Reading Programs (Daytona Beach) 
They are offering reading skills programs for children ages 4 through the 11th grade. Programs focus on phonics, comprehension, vocabulary, study skills, and speed reading. For more information call 800-978-9596.

Contact your local YMCA, as they do offer summer camp options. They have summer day camp available that offers the kids art, field trips, games, and sports. They also offer Camp Winona, which is an overnight camping option.

2013 Easter Egg Hunts and Activities

It's that time of year again! Time to take your little ones to some Easter egg hunts and activities. Here is a list of local ones that you can check out. 

The plastic Easter eggs that people use are generally not biodegradable. Please save them to donate back to the place doing the egg hunt, give them to a teacher, or reuse them yourself. If you do not need them please don't trash them. Plastic pretty much stays in the environment forever, so we need to do what we can to reduce, reuse, and recycle the millions of plastic eggs used each spring around the country! There are environmentally friendly versions available (here), but it may be a little late to order them. Keep it in mind for next year. Here is an article on having a environmentally friendlier Easter.

Note: Most of these celebrations are free family event. Donations may be appreciated. Also, your child should take a basket to put their eggs in during the hunt. Some Easter egg hunts are divided by age groups (so that a 4 year old is not doing it with a 12 year old).

March -9-31, 2013 - Pictures with the Easter Bunny
The Volusia Mall is offering pictures with the Easter Bunny. You can view the package and time info here. 

March 23, 2013 - EGGstravaganza 
This egg hunt event will take place in Deltona at the Dewey O. Boster Sports Complex, located at 1200 Saxon Blvd. It will be from 10:00 a.m. until noon. There will be an egg hunt, bunny, and festivities. Parents should not be late. Egg hunt is for ages 2-10. There are 25,000 eggs for this one (please read my note about the plastic eggs above). March 23, 2013 - Easter Extravaganza
Held at the Hollyland Park in Holly Hill, this will be from noon until 3:00 p.m. There will be a free Easter egg hunt, vendors, games, raffles, and more. Located at 1066 Ridgewood Ave. 

March 23, 2013 - South Daytona Christian Church
The South Daytona Christian Church, located at 2121 Kenilworth Ave., will be hosting The Great Egg Hunt starting from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. There will be egg hunting, face painting, crafts, snacks, balloons, games, and more. 

TUMC Easter Egg Hunt March 23
Join us at 10:00 a.m. for an “eggs-cellent” Easter celebration! Bring an Easter basket! Register your guess of how many malted milk chocolates to win the whole jar! Stop by and speak with the directors and teachers of the All4Kids Afterschool Program and the Montessori Creative Art Preschool (a VPK-certified provider.)Little hands can visit the Craft Room to make a watercolor butterfly magnet, a flower necklace, an Easter frame, get take-home Easter coloring sheets, and more! (Open until 10:30.) Then enter the Sanctuary to hear Pastor Kandace recount the EASTER STORY. At 10:45 the Easter Egg hunts begin! Children in 2nd – 5th grades will search in the Prayer Garden (to the east of the church); and younger children with gather eggs on the playground to the west. March 24, 2013 - Easter Family Celebration
The First United Methodist Church of Ormond Beach, located at 336 South Halifax Drive, will be holding an Easter Family Celebration. It will begin at 12:30 p.m. and will feature a potluck lunch, egg hunts, crafts, and more. There will be an Easter bunny there for photos. 

March 30, 2013 - Family Easter Party
The Tomoka Christian Church, located at 1151 W. Granada Blvd. in Ormond Beach, is having a family Easter party. It will be from 10:00 a.m. to noon. There will be egg hunts, sno-cones, popcorn, music, etc. 

March 30^th Giant Helicopter Drop Easter Egg Hunt
At Calvary Christian Center 1687 W Granada Blvd. Ormond Beach at 10:30am. Over 12,000 eggs, prizes, bounce houses and more. Eggs will be dropped from a helicopter. 

March 30^th Easter Egg Hunt
At Calvary Christian Center South Campus 794 Old Mission Road, New Smyrna Beach 11am. Thousands of eggs, bounce houses, prizes and food.

The Central Florida Zoo is having a special Easter activity. 

March 30, 2013 - 1st Baptist Church Easter Egg Hunt
This egg hunt will start at 10:00 a.m. and be held at the Port Orange City Center circle. 

March 30, 2013 - 2nd Annual Easter Egg Hunt
The City of New Smyrna Beach will be hosting an egg hunt at the Old Fort Park, located at 210 Sams Ave. The egg hunt will begin at noon. They will also have free food and activities.  

March 30, 2013 - Meet the Easter Bunny
Walgreens, located at 1625 Taylor Road in Port Orange, is having a special meet the Easter bunny event. It will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Receive a free 4x6 photo with the Easter bunny. For more info call 386-761-5578.
