Marine Science Center - Ponce Inlet
Looking for something fun and educational to do? When was the last time you visited the Marine Science
Center, located in Ponce Inlet? If it has been a while, or you have never been there, it is time to check it out!
The Marine Science is a small facility that won't take but around two hours for you and the kids to make your way through, and that's with stopping to do one of their art projects. The kids love it, though, and they will get a chance to see some neat things.
At the Marine Science Center you will see turtles in rehabilitation, a touch stingray tank, an artificial reef, turtles, sea horses, a variety of fish, snakes, birds in rehabilitation, and other animals and exhibits. There is a small admission fee per person (as of July 2011 it is $5 for adults, $2 for children, and under 3 is free). It is well worth the money and trip, as it supports a great cause (the rehabilitation of the turtles and birds), and your children will learn a lot.
When you are finished with seeing the center, don't forget to walk across the street to take the nature
walk. It's a short walk on a boardwalk, so it is perfect for smaller children. The short walk leads back to an observation tower, where you can see the lighthouse, water, and view.
Each year, during the Turtle Day celebration, the Marine Science Center releases the rehabilitated turtles and birds down at the beach. This year we went and it was great. Lots of people attended and it was great to see these rehabilitated animals returned to their natural habitat.
The Marine Science Center is located at 100 Lighthouse Dr. in Ponce Inlet. They can be reached at (376) 304-5545.
