10 Questions with a home-based business: Salsa Addiction
Salsa Addiction is an Organic, Sugar Free, Gluten Free, MSG Free Salsa made fresh and then jarred for your enjoyment. We have 4 flavors. Original Mild, Medium and Hot, and Chipotle Roasted Garlic, with a few others in the works.
2) How long have you operated Salsa Addiction?
A little over a year.
3) What was the inspiration for starting this business?
I have been making this salsa for years, and everyone kept telling me to sell it, sometimes friends would buy jars from me. One day I was approached about setting up at The Green Market with it, so I decided to go full steam ahead.
4) Where does Salsa Addiction call home?
Port Orange!
5) Does Salsa Addiction deliver/ship? If so, where is your delivery area?
Yes. We deliver large orders if requested, and we always ship when needed. I have even shipped all the way to Canada!
6) Which types of events or occasions have people given jars of Salsa Addiction as a gift?
I have had someone give small jars of Salsa Addiction tied up with ribbon for a baby shower goody. I have also had people give it for birthdays, and as hostess gifts instead of wine for parties. I even have a couple of businesses that give it to clients.
7) What kind of promotions do you do?
I have a "recycling" program where if you have an empty jar and you return it to me, you get $.50 off
your next jar. I have a rewards card, after so many punches you get a free jar! Sometimes I also work with non profits to boost their fundraising and offer them a percentage of sales at their events.
8) What is a challenging aspect of owning a home-based business?
Right now for us, it's just me and my husband, so it’s a lot of work for just the 2 of us to keep up with. That’s a big challenge. Another challenge is just getting the word out and getting the exposure.
9) What do you find rewarding about running Salsa Addiction?
I Love the way people describe our salsa, the "I could drink this with a straw" Kind of reactions. I love that I am providing something local and healthy for families to eat, and that I’m supporting local farmers by purchasing my produce from them for the salsa.
