Colleen McDevitt - The best Mother's Day present ever!
According to the doctor I wasn't due until May 20th with my second child. My husband was working on Mother's Day, at a restaurant that is known for being notoriously busy that day. He teasingly said "I'll give you the moon if you have the baby today." I said, we aren't due for another week, no way!
I go about my day and notice while I was at the mall getting my first sons hair cut that I had some discomfort. With my first, I was induced and had no idea of what labor was. As the day wore on the discomfort became more frequent and a little more intense. My husband got home from work and we went to look for a car carrier. While at the store the discomfort became more frequent and stronger, this was around 6pm. We decided to go home and I timed these "discomforts". They were about 5 minutes apart, so I called the hospital, and they said to come on in to just get checked out.
I pack a bag, knowing I'm not having the baby this day. We take our time and arrive at the hospital around 10 pm. They check me, and say "Well, do you want the Doctor to deliver or the Midwife?" I said "Why?" The response was, "Well, your son will be here soon! 10 minutes later my Ryan Daniel arrived. He was the best Mother's Day present EVER! I was able to tease my husband about his bet, as he never specified what time of day.
I never knew what labor felt like. I guess in my mind it was much worse than what I was experiencing, and my water never broke until I was at the hospital.
Thanks for letting me share my story!
