Thai Kitchen by Saowanee in Port Orange - Review

I love Thai food! I am a fan of Siam Spice and Zen Bistro, but they are a drive from where I live in Port Orange, so when I saw a new Thai restaurant was opening up next to Panera Bread I was thrilled. My husband kept telling me to stop being so excited, because I would probably be disappointed once I tried it (it's happened before). The restaurant hasn't even been open a week and today is the day we stopped in to try it for lunch.

And I wasn't disappointed!

Thai Kitchen by Saowanee is located at 1781 Dunlawton, right next to Panera Bread. They have used some great colors inside to decorate and everything looks nice. I wanted to try several things on the menu, so my husband and I ordered them and shared everything.

They do offer a $6.99 lunch special, with plenty of options to choose from (see image below). The lunch special comes with a small salad. We had the plum dressing and it was great. When you choose your lunch special you get to choose from chicken, pork, vegetable, or tofu.

We ordered their spring rolls (I always have to try the spring rolls), an order of the fried tofu, and the lunch special of the pad Thai. I wanted it all vegan, which they were happy to do. They said most of their dishes can easily be made vegan, you just need to let them know. Only a few of their dishes have non-vegan sauces to begin with. And the cracker that comes in the salad has shrimp in it, so they left that out for us. I also ordered (as always) their fresh brewed iced tea.

The food was great! I loved the fried tofu and its delicious dipping sauce. I have been wanting a place near our house that served up great fried tofu and now I've found it. Their spring rolls were great, too. I loved the sauce for them as well. Their iced tea was perfect, and their pad Thai was delicious! Honestly this was a home run for me. I thought it was great!

I spoke with the owner, who stopped by to see if everything was okay, and I learned that there was a connection with him and Siam Spice in Daytona Beach (his mother worked there). They have changed up the recipes, but if you like Siam Spice you will certainly also like Thai Kitchen.

Overall I give Thai Kitchen by Saowanee two thumbs up! The food was great, the service was great, and it's nice in there. The price was not bad either, especially considering they offer a lunch special and will let me get tofu with it. I'm excited that I have found a Thai restaurant close to home that is so good. I will be back there for sure!
