"Running with the Mind of Meditation" by Sakyong Mipham - Book Review

Running-meditation

I wanted to buy a book for my husband as a Christmas present, so I set out on a mission of researching different options. He's an avid runner and I'm into meditation, so when I stumbled across "Running with the Mind of Meditation," by Sakyong Mipham I was thrilled. When the book arrived and I prepared to wrap it up I thumbed through it and instantly become interested in reading it myself. Two weeks before Christmas I had started a running program with my husband, and after he opened the book he suggested that I also read it. I actually read it before he did, because he was in the middle of another book and I could start it right away (he didn't mind at all). I read the book during our drive to visit my sister in Tallahassee.

What a great book! I loved this book and found it very insightful. Sakyong, who is a Tibetan llama and avid runner, shares great information about both running and meditation, including the benefits of each. Some of the great things I learned focused on breathing (both in running and meditation) and building a base (in both running and meditation). One of the most important things I learned from this book is how running is more a matter of the mind than it is the body.  Once I started reading the book I couldn't put it down. It was that good. My husband read it after I finished and he loved it as well. In fact, he loved it so much that he bought a copy as a birthday gift for his running partner/friend.

Two thumbs up for this book  about running, meditation and being more mindful. It's an excellent read!

Good news, too. This book is currently on sale for only $1.99 for the kindle version (now through March 13, 2016). Get it here.
