I've written before about how I love going to Salt Springs Recreation Area. Located just over an hour away, it's a fabulous place to take the family for the day! The springs are gorgeous and with most of it shallow enough to stand up, it's largely kid friendly. I love snorkeling in the spring at Salt Springs Recreation Area. This weekend, we took our our first RV camping trip to Salt Springs. We had a great time!
While I prefer a campsite that offers more nature and privacy around each person's site, I still ended up liking the campsite and would go back again. The sites are close together and it's pretty open. We had site number 25. Most have some trees to provide shade. They also have a campfire ring, pad, and picnic table. They do also offer restrooms, tent camping, hiking trails, a basketball court, and a small camp store. We had heard prior to going that there was no Internet service. There is no service when you are at the springs, but when we were back at our campsite we did have service. If you leave the park you will find a few businesses across the street, including a Dollar General.
You can ride your bikes down to the springs to swim, or you can drive your car to it. For RV campers it's a bit far to walk over to it. It's closer for tent campers though. If you ride your bike to the springs you will have to park them at the bike rack at the parking lot, so yo may want to take a bike lock. Salt Springs is so fun for snorkeling! There are lots of fish to see, and there are three springs to go over and check out. There are nearby picnic tables, too. When not camping there we pack a lunch and have it at a picnic table in between going in the water.
We had a great time! We would go to the springs to snorkel for a while, spend time at our campsite, and we also went one morning to Ravine Gardens State Park. That park is located around 30 minutes from Salt Springs. It's very nice, offering a 1.8 mile trail that loops the park. You can also do what we did, and hike down into the ravine to see the natural spring flow.
This was a great trip. My sister had surprised me and come for a visit on Friday, so she got to spend the weekend camping with us. Lots of fun!
