Crescent Lake Conservation Area in Seville in Volusia County - Hiking, biking, equestrian trail
Located on the Volusia/Flagler county line area, Crescent Lake Conservation Area is in a rural area. The conservation area offers a 3.5 mile loop unpaved trail that can be used for hiking, biking, and for equestrian purposes. There is a small parking area, no restrooms, and no picnic tables, but there are some nice views on this trail. You start out walking down the service road and until the trail makes a right turn. Follow the white blazes all the way around and it will go in a long loop and bring you back to that service road.
The trail is well blazed, but it's not well worn. From the way it looked, I don't think many people use this trail. It was a bit overgrown and the trail was covered with a lot of leaf litter, branches, and debris. Still, we made our way through it. While I would prefer that it be more worn so that it's easier to walk through, we still did enjoy the views. Being that we did this trail in May, simply because we had a cool morning and took advantage of it, I would like to go back during the winter and do this trail again. This trail is not suitable for a stroller or wheelchair.
We saw lots of wildflowers, butterflies, some birds, and beautiful trees. Another thing I liked about the trail is that it is mostly shaded. Because some of the areas you walk through had an abundance of leaf litter and high grass, you need to check the kids for ticks when you are done hiking. While ticks can be anywhere outdoors, I find that they are more present in areas with a lot of leaf litter and high grasses. When we got back to the car, we found two ticks on us. Hours later at home, my daughter had found another one already embedded in her side. If you find a tick, use tweezers to get close to it, squeeze, and pull it straight out. They are really tiny, so do a thorough job of looking them over, checking out any areas that may look like a beauty mark to ensure that's what it is and that it's not an embedded tick.
Crescent Lake Conservation Area is located Northeast of Seville and southwest of Bunnell, at the south end of Crescent Lake in Flagler and Volusia counties. Your GPS should pull it up when you search for it by name. That's how I found it and we had no problems using the GPS to arrive there.
