Aldi produce haul - eating healthy on a budget

Are you looking to feed your family healthier meals? How about get more fruits and vegetables into your diet? I personally love to go to the local farmer's markets to score big on produce. But I often can't make the day/time that they are open. Lately I've been really happy with going to Aldi for produce. There is one in Daytona Beach and New Smyrna Beach. The one in New Smyrna Beach is closer to me, so we usually go there.

Aldi has a nice produce department. Their store is smaller than most others, but they still have plenty to offer. You can find a lot of good deals on produce there, including on organic products. Beyond the produce department they have a lot of other good deals as well.

Here's the produce haul I got today (some of the items are organic):

pineapple $1.69
spinach $1.19
organic apples $5.49
organic pears $2.89
2 bunches organic bananas $2.48
potatoes $2.99
sweet potatoes $1.99
acorn squash $2.46
butternut squash $2.60
peaches $2.78
strawberries $2.19
grape tomatoes $.99
white mushrooms $1.69
zucchini (3) $1.99
yellow squash (3) $1.99
cabbage $1.49

Total spent on all that produce: $36.90

If you can't make it to farmer's markets to get some good deals on produce, give Aldi a try. You will find some great prices, a good selection, and will be able to make some healthier meals on a budget.  We eat a lot of produce (we are a vegetarian family), so Aldi provides us with a great way to get lots of fruits and veggies and not break the bank.
