Review: Sweet Jane's Whoopie Pies in Silver Springs
If you find yourself traveling in the Silver Springs area you are sure to see large signs on the side of the road advertising "Whoopie Pies." Well, we saw them over the weekend and decided to stop in and check them out.
Sweet Jane's Candy Store is located at 2774 NE 102nd Ave in Silver Springs. It's right off the road where there the Wilderness RV Resort is located.
We stopped in to see how the Whoppie Pies are that Jane makes. The store itself is a lovely little candy store that has a huge variety of candy, many of them unique or nostalgic pieces that I haven't seen in years. Some things I had never seen before. If you have a sweet tooth, you can't help but to love this little store. Jane, who makes the little sweet gems, has been making them for over four decades.
But we came for the Whoopie Pies, so we passed the candy up and went straight to the display case of the pies. There were numerous varieties to choose from, including chocolate with vanilla, chocolate with cherry, chocolate with mint, German chocolate, key lime pie, and many others. My husband and daughter decided to get the chocolate with vanilla, I got the chocolate with cherry, and my son opted for the key lime pie. They offer both a regular size Whoppie Pie and one that is smaller. But it's only 75 cents more for the larger one, and it's quite a big bigger, so we opted for those. The larger ones were $3.25 each, plus tax.
We paid up and headed out to the car and got back on the road. It didn't take us but minutes to break into our treat. Yum! That was the first thing that came to my mind. They were so good! The cake part was nice and moist and tasted great. The frosting filling inside was just the right amount of sweetness and added a nice contrasting taste to the cake part. We loved them!
I will say that the large one is pretty big and it was a lot to eat. Granted, we all still did it, but we did feel we could have used one that was a bit smaller. Still, the next size down seems too small, so I'd buy the larger size again the next time.
We don't go through that area often, but I have a feeling that when we do we will be stopping off at Sweet Jane's to grab some Whoopie Pies. They were delicious. Two thumbs up for Sweet Jane's Whoopie Pies in Silver Springs!
