Free pet food and microchip event in Volusia County

Microchip

*DUE TO THE THREAT OF SEVERE WEATHER FROM ISAIAS, THIS EVENT HAS BEEN RESCHEDULED FOR SUNDAY, AUG. 9.*

Volusia County Animal Services is holding a community event to provide free pet food and microchips to residents. The event will take place Sunday, Aug. 9, 2020 at the Volusia County Fairgrounds at 3150 E. New York Ave. from 9 a.m.-5 p.m., or until supplies last.

For convenience and social distancing, Sunday’s event will feature drive-thru service. Residents won’t have to get out of their vehicle, but are asked to wear a face covering. There will be two drive-up lines – one just for pet food and the other for both food and a microchip. The food will be loaded into the vehicles for residents.

Those also wishing to get their pet microchipped will complete a form before county staff removes the pet(s) from the vehicle and takes them into the on-site facility for a quick and painless procedure. Within minute, the pet(s) will be returned to the vehicle. If you wish to expedite the process, you may print and complete the microchip form in advance. Forms will also be available on site.

Volusia County is very grateful to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) who donated approximately $10,500 worth of pet food for the event.

Ormond Dog Owner

Every time I hear about these things they're always at the Fairgrounds on the other side of the County. Is there ever anything like this in Ormond Beach or Daytona so I wouldn't have to drive almost an hour, one way, just to get to it? I'm almost in Flagler County, so even something in Bunnell, Flagler Beach or Palm Coast would be closer.

I would suggest contacting the humane society in your area to see if there are any events like this planned. Perhaps they can plan one. Send them the flyer and ask if they can put something like that together for the community. :)
