As a parent, you will be all too familiar with how stressful and chaotic family life can be, and no matter how hard you try, sticking to a daily routine can be a struggle. However, it is essential for both individual and family wellbeing that you stick to a regular daily routine as much as possible. 

Sticking to a daily routine can help to create a more productive and calmer environment which will help both children and adults to feel better and excel in other areas of their life. For example, your child is much more likely to do well at school if they have a calm and healthy breakfast before they leave the house. So, we have put together our top four tips on how to improve your daily routine as a family. 

Eat Well

Firstly, we recommend that you aim for both yourself and your kids to eat well as this will have a huge impact on your overall health and wellbeing. Eating regular balanced meals will help the family to feel energized and ready for the day ahead. Most of us can relate that after eating a lot of unhealthy, processed fast food, we can start to feel lethargic and lazy. So, sticking with fruit and vegetables with each meal is a much healthier alternative. 

While you may be sitting there thinking it is impossible to find the time to eat healthy as a family, we recommend that you plan your meals in advance and batch cook. That way, there is always a healthy meal on hand for the whole family to enjoy.  

Get into a Sleep Schedule 

One of the main reasons why it is difficult to stick to a daily routine is because our sleep schedule is disrupted. Routine is essential for kids and going to bed at the same time each night and getting up at the same time each morning can help to regular their bodies and make them feel more rested. 

If you and your family find it difficult to get to sleep at night, and thus aren’t getting the rest you need, then an inconsistent schedule could be the culprit. This is because children are nothing if not unpredictable. So be sure to sit down with your partner and take a look at what worked well during the last week. By making these changes, you can make steps towards having the perfect routine for your family. 

Take Part in Exercise as a Family 

Physical activity is an essential aspect of a healthy lifestyle, so we recommend that you integrate it into your family routine. While you may think it is impossible to get your kids to engage in physical activity, it is much easier if you can make them fun. For example, heading down to your local pool for a family swim, is great fun, and a good way to get your body moving. Even just going for a long walk as a family is a great way to get your kids moving.
