Review: 5th Element Authentic Indian Kitchen in Daytona Beach

Element3

I am a fan of Indian food and recently discovered that there is a new Indian restaurant on International Speedway Boulevard in Daytona Beach. Today, we checked it out for lunch!

5th Element Authentic Indian Kitchen, located at 1448 W. International Speedway Blvd., is part of a chain. The chain has locations in Jacksonville, Palm Coast, Sanford, and Pompano Beach. I'm not sure how long the Daytona Beach location has been there, but I just recently spotted it, as it's kind of hidden back behind other businesses (kind of behind a Wendy's). Next to the restaurant is a small Indian grocery store, too.

My husband and I stopped in for lunch and took a long time to check out the menu to decide what to order. I had seen online that they offer a box lunch special, and I went in interested in that. However, what comes in the box changes (you can't pick the items, it's already set) and on this particular day one of the items was a cottage cheese dish, which I wasn't interested in. So I went with  plan B, and ordered a dosa.

Dosa's are like a crepe that you can get filled with things like onions, potatoes, cheese, etc. You use your hands and break off pieces to dip into one of three different sauces that you get with it, including a coconut chutney, lentil soup (sambar), and another one that I wasn't sure of. I ordered one that just had onions in it (I love onions and didn't want anything too spicy), and my husband ordered the masala one, which was spicy and had potatoes and onions in it. We also ordered a couple of samosas.

The samosas arrived and they were good. They are crispy on the outside and spicy on the inside. The dosas arrived and they looked great! They were really big, nice and crispy on the outside, and filled on the inside. I really liked the coconut chutney and lentil soup, for dipping, too.

We were both so full by the time we were done that even my husband was saying he was stuffed (and he eats a lot). It was a good and we would go back again. The place is nice inside and the customer service was good as well. When I'm craving a dosa I'll be heading back to 5th Element Indian Kitchen.
