5 Ways to Spend More Quality Time at Home with Kids

When you have children, spending quality time together is crucial for forming a bond, aiding their development, and reducing stress levels. With the summer break now here, your kids will be at home for longer than ever before, meaning you need to think of ways to spend time as a family. With COVID-19 affecting millions of family vacations, you may decide it’s best to stay put this year. For those staying at home, here are some great ways to spend some much-needed quality time with the kids.

Have a Movie Night

You’ll have a hard time finding a child that doesn’t love movies. Whether it’s a Marvel hit, a romcom, or your kids are fearless and enjoy horror, hosting a weekly movie night will give all the family something to look forward to. Make sure you grab a bag of popcorn from the grocery store, stock up on soda, and pick films that your kids will enjoy. You can all cuddle up on the couch and spend hour after hour watching exciting movies as a family.

Play Games

There are tons of games you and your kids can play without having to leave the front door. Whether you pull out classic board games like Monopoly, or try out I-spy, your children are sure to enjoy any game you put in front of them. If your kids are competitive, prepare for tantrums and arguments (it’s all part of the fun!). Rather than handing over a tablet to keep your children occupied, playing old-fashioned games gives you a chance to have fun and interact with loved ones.

Have a Dance

When your favorite song comes on, you can’t help but tap your toes. Listening to music and having a dance provides all kinds of health benefits, such as boosting your mood, helping you think more positively, and staying fit and active. If your kids love music, make sure to put on some fun songs that the whole family can have a dance to. Both music and dance engage your child’s brain, cultivate communication skills, and allow your kids to express themselves in whatever way possible.

Cook Together

As parents, we know how important it is to feed our children healthy, nutritious grub for their wellbeing and development. If your kids are old enough and want to be in the kitchen, why not cook some tasty meals together? Having a helping hand will take the weight off your shoulders, so whether your kids get involved by measuring out flour, kneading bread, or stirring the pot, cooking together can be a great way to bond and spend quality time as a family. What’s more, once the meal is cooked, your kids will get a huge sense of accomplishment from all their hard work.

Exercise as a Family

Keeping fit and active is essential for all age groups. Exercise strengthens the heart, gets your blood pumping, reduces stress levels, and keeps spirits up. There’s no need to head to the local park to exercise either. If you have a backyard, getting your kids outdoors and doing some fun activities and sports can be a great way to pass the time, while keeping everyone active. If you’re a family of baseball lovers, this pitching machine throws serious heat which you may be interested in. Getting outdoors and spending time in the sunshine will ensure you and your kids are getting some much-needed vitamin D.

If you work remotely due to the coronavirus pandemic, or you’re staying at home instead of going on vacation, there are lots of fun things you can do with the kids that will serve as bonding opportunities.
