Volusia County Schools to Require Face Coverings for Students K-12

Here is the information provided by the Volusia County Schools regarding the face covering policy that was approved by a 3-2 vote on August 31, 2021.

The Volusia County School Board voted Tuesday to require face coverings for K-12 students in schools and VCS facilities starting Tuesday, September 7, 2021. There will be a grace period the week of September 7 for families to obtain a note from a medical professional requesting a medical exemption.

The policy will continue until October 15, 2021 and will be re-visited by the School Board at their regularly scheduled meeting on October 12, 2021.

Masks and/or face shields will be allowed.

Masks will be worn inside all schools and facilities and may be removed outside. 

Masks will be required on buses.

Employees will be required to wear face coverings until October 15, 2021 as well.

Appropriate accommodations will be made for medical purposes on an individual basis in accordance with the ADA.

Contact tracing and quarantine information will follow the CDC guidelines. Information will be updated on the district website this week.
