Volusia County Schools offers parent opt-out for face masks

From Volusia County Schools:

The Volusia County School Board voted Tuesday night to allow parents and guardians to opt their children out of the mandatory face-covering policy.

For the fastest update to the student’s record, parents who have signed up for Parent Portal accounts should sign into the Parent Portal to electronically complete the Mandatory Face Covering Parent Choice form. The Parent Portal is available at:

https://volusia.focusschoolsoftware.com/focus/index.php?skipSAML. On the portal there will be clear directions on how to opt-out. Parents who need their student’s alpha ID code or PIN number can get that from their school.

A paper form for Mandatory Face Covering Parent Choice will also be available on the VCS website at https://bit.ly/3Ch75D1 and at each school. (Attached to this message is a pdf of the document as well) If you use a paper copy, the form should be completed fully and submitted to the main office at the school. Once the selection has been entered, the choice will be in effect and visible in the student’s record.

Please fill out an opt-out form for each of your children.

Please note, if you are unable to go online and opt out, and/or your form is not completed in time for the school day, schools will be accommodating.

Unless the parent chooses to opt-out of the mandatory face-covering policy, students in grades K-12 will be required to wear face masks or shields while indoors at schools and facilities and while on school buses.

The employee and visitor mask policy will remain in effect until October 15, 2021 and will be revisited at intervening School Board meetings.

Medical opt-out forms will still be accepted.

For adults, appropriate accommodations will be made for medical purposes on an individual basis in accordance with the ADA.
